teacher talking with student

"I love the innovation, I love the engagement, and these students are getting a great background, and a great education. It was just really inspiring to see. These students [in Grundy Center] - because of these types of activities - they're going to take ownership for their own health for the rest of their lives." (The Grundy Register, April 24, 2009)

Physical education programs in the 21st Century can inspire, motivate and prepare learners to live in an ever-changing world, increasingly marked by the epidemic of obesity and overweight individuals. The examination of new forms of pedagogy embracing technology, linking practice to theory, contextually-based and embedded in community life provide a way to reshape and redesign the future of health and physical education.

The Global Forum for Physical Education Pedagogy 2010 (GoFPEP 2010) will invite international voices in a dynamic program designed for educators, health professionals, administrators, policy makers and citizens and give them the opportunity to discuss the future of physical education pedagogy.

Worldwide, physical education teacher preparation programs need to be rethought and reformed. The application of the industrial model for preparing teachers focused on gaining theoretical knowledge as a prelude to practice is in question.

A new model of pedagogy for preparing physical education teachers is called for, one that promotes greater accountability, builds community life and employs a greater use of reflection to improve practice and embeds learning in practice.

GoFPEP 2010 will provide unique opportunities for professional enhancement, drawing together leading educational experts from throughout the world. A new model of pedagogy employed in the preparation of physical education teachers will be featured.
