Consensus Statement

GoFPEP 2010 Pre Forum Instructions for Distinguished Invited Delegates

An important component of GoFPEP 2010 will be the sharing of innovative strategies to advance the teaching of health and physical education and the preparation of health and physical education teachers. The primary purpose of GoFPEP 2010 will be to develop a Consensus Statement focused on teaching health and physical education and they preparation of health and physical education teachers.

In order to involve and encourage the participation of each distinguished invited delegate in the pre-forum activities required to produce the Consensus Statement, a process of gaining of your insight has been designed. The designed process of sharing will involve receiving suggestions and recommendations to be formatted into individual poster presentations to be available for group discussion and dialog during the forum.

In order to accomplish this, we are asking each delegate to provide to us the following no later than February 1, 2010:

Innovative Strategies in the Teaching of Health and Physical Education. We would ask each delegate to offer five innovative strategies employed in the teaching of health and physical education at the elementary, secondary and/or post secondary levels. Each strategy should be identified in five or less words and described in two sentences or less, not to exceed 50 words per strategy.

Innovative Approaches in the Preparation of Health and Physical Education Teachers. Each delegate is encouraged to offer five or less innovative approaches employed in the preparation of health and physical education teachers. Each item should be identified in five or less words and described in two sentences or less, not to exceed 50 words per strategy.

Consensus Statement Recommendations. Each distinguished delegate is requested to offer three to five of their most important recommendations for the GoFPEP 2010 Consensus Statement focused on either the teaching of health and physical education at the elementary, secondary or post secondary level and/or for the preparation of physical education teachers. The items recommended in these two categories should be the most important concepts to be advanced in moving health and physical education forward. Consensus Statement recommendations should be direct and concise, providing the opportunity for application. Each statement should be no longer than one sentence.

Below are links to information from three previous World Summits. It is our intent to craft a Consensus Statement that builds upon these documents, yet advances our efforts with a more specific focus on innovative approaches employed in the preparation of health and physical education at various levels. For example, greater attention may need to be paid to the development of community partnerships, the contextualization of learning environments and the need to provide a holistic strategy in the preparation of health and physical education teachers.
